Flora & Form botanical art course
Introduction
An observing exercise, of drawing, experimenting and learning, discovering and creativity. Starting from botanical subjects and using different techniques, participants will learn to unravel not only the shape, but also their stories, geometry and the magic of nature, in the most varied studying forms – classic and experimental drawing, botanical illustration, abstraction and styling.
Course structure
Participants will benefit from guidance in finding their own style, and in the same manner will go through different learning and understanding stages. In order to explore and experiment different techniques, all materials needed, will be provided. Starting from drawing and nature study, each participant can create crayon works, watercolor, ink, oil, collage, engraving and mixed media. Previous experience is not required.
The art course goal is to open creative horizons for beginners and refreshing the working technique for the advanced. We will approach the botanical art from varied perspectives, based on individual development of the participant’s projects: classical botanic illustration, scientific drawing, experimental drawing, linocut, abstract painting and graphic art. The group will consist of a maximum of 6 participants. The summer school includes five working days, and a (final) day in which we organize in the studio, together with the invited participants and guests, a small exhibition of their art projects.
Course schedule
Day 1: from illustration to abstract art – presentations, case study; different working techniques, sketches and croquis
Day 2: watercolor botanical study
Day 3: developing the project, the conceptual bond between the chosen model and its symbol, 0this will stay at the basis of the abstraction process
Day 4: individual work of transferring the botanical illustration into a project
Day 5: finalizing the project and presentations

Craft materials are available in the studio as well as laptops for those research.
Tuition fee: EUR 200
*Daily lunch break for one hour. Lunches can be organized by using the kitchen facilities at the studio, take away or nearby restaurants.

In forms of short workshops, distance learning, summer schools, art retreats and long term courses, our tutors aim to investigate creative explorations and authentic approaches of urban and wild nature.
